"That’s worrying, says Chris Emmins of the online reputation-management company KwikChex. “The No 1 hotel in Rome is currently the Deko,” he says. “It opened in April and, after just 30 reviews and two months, became top property in a list of more than 1,250. Of those 30 reviews, 24 were from unknown, one-time posters. It shows exactly how easy it is to manipulate TripAdvisor. Their so-called ‘effective diligence and filtering’ simply doesn’t exist."
