Insurance scammers target TripAdvisor

'A new wave of fraudsters is posting bogus accounts of theft and injury on TripAdvisor to back up false insurance claims, according to hoteliers.'

'Chris Emmins, of the online reputation management company KwikChex, says: “We’ve had more than 40 requests from hoteliers in this situation. It’s fairly frequent, and it’s hard to nail. I suspect the motivation is getting two or three reports like this online about one property, then going to the insurance company and saying, ‘Look, this happens all the time there.’
