Fake Stars, Real Danger: Illegal Drugs Online

New investigation by The Guardian reveals illegal weight-loss drug vendors masked by inflated Trustpilot scores

A recent investigation by The Guardian has found that a number of firms are selling unlicensed and illegal weight-loss drugs in the UK while using high Trustpilot ratings to appear legitimate and trustworthy.

Because these drugs remain experimental, the products being sold are not subject to the safety, sterility or quality-control standards required of licensed medicines. This means buyers face significant health risks, including misuse, contamination, and incorrect dosing.

Experts have described the situation as “especially alarming and dangerous,” highlighting how easily vulnerable consumers can be drawn into unregulated online drug markets with just a few clicks – particularly when sellers are bolstered by misleading online reviews.

As KwikChex co-founder Chris Emmins warned in the article:

“Rogue and criminal operators rely on social media and supposedly ‘trusted’ online reviews to persuade consumers to buy these products. Urgent action is needed.”
