On 19 October 2025, The Guardian published an article highlighting KwikChex’s investigation into fraudulent investment firms exploiting the Trustpilot review platform. The report warned of the risks these fake reviews and deceptive online practices pose to consumers and legitimate businesses.
Scam investment firms regularly use fake five-star reviews to appear credible while leveraging phoney documents, cloned websites, and stolen identities to lure investors.
KwikChex exposed these schemes, uncovering networks of fake reviewers that promoted some companies while attacking rivals. The investigation revealed forged incorporation certificates, virtual offices posing as real, and companies falsely claiming to be regulated law firms.
Following KwikChex’s report, Trustpilot has launched its own investigation and is working to remove fake reviews, along with entire review pages for certain businesses.
